NCD Alliance Japan and the Global and Health Policy Institute collaborated with the international non-profit organization, The World Stroke Organization, to translate the Global Stroke Guidelines and Action Plan: A Roadmap for Quality Stroke Care—Roadmap Implementation Guide into Japanese. The translation was overseen by experts from the Japan Stroke Society and the Japan Stroke Association.

The WSO is the only global body solely focused on stroke. With around 4000 individual and 90 society members spanning every global region, it represents over 55,000 stroke specialists in clinical, research and community settings . Since its establishment in 2006, the WSO has put stroke prevention, treatment, and long-term care on the global agenda and engages in education, research, awareness, and advocacy activities.

This roadmap provides a framework for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating health services related to strokes on a global scale. It provides standardization and consistency for the selection of evidence-based recommendations, approaches to implementations in clinical practice, and the calculation of performance measures to create an environment of continuous quality improvement. It is intended for national governments, local governments, various medical institutions, as well as doctors and other medical professionals .
